5.He suffered from tuberculosis of the bone that was probably contracted from his wet-nurse and which left him permanently deformed (he was described as about four feet six high), so he was taught at home, and became a self-educated man.

2.His work “An Elegy Written in a Country Church Yard” is one of the best known of English lyric poems. This poem reveals his thoughts upon looking at the town stones in a small country cementry. It expressed universal sentiments as it reflects all the opportunities these people had missed by leaving a sheltered life in small town.
