He became a judge, then Vice-President of the United States when Franklin Roosevelt was President. He became the president when Roosevelt died. Truman made the decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan, ending World War 2. He provided airlifted goods to Berlin, Germany. During his term in office the White House was reconstructed because it was old and needed repair.
