1Fertile Crescent _____An advanced stage (as in art, science, and government) of social development. The way of life of a people (Ancient Egyptian Civilization)
2Sumer _____Historically the area stretched from the southeastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea around the Syrian Desert north of the Arabian Peninsula to the Persian Gulf, it includes the Nile River valley. A crescent-shaped area of arable land, more agriculturally productive in antiquity than it is today.
3Ur _____An ancient Sumerian City, formely on the Euphrates River in southern Iraq. One of the oldest cities in Mesopotamia.
4Archaeology _____In the ancient city of Shinar, Noah's descendants began to build a tower, (probably in Babylon) they intended it to reach up to heaven. God foiled them by confusing their language so they could no longer understand one another.
5People groups _____One of the eariliest known systems of writing, distinguished by its wedge-shaped marks on clay tablets. Wedge-shaped writing used in Mesopotamia.
6Antiquity _____Region of southern Mesopotamia and site of the earliest known civilization.
7Civilization _____A group with a common self-name sense of common identity, with history, customs, as well as marriage rules and practices.
8Architecture _____A community of people composed of one or more nationalities usually with its own territory and government. The territory of a nation.
9Babble _____The science or profession of developing and using nature's power and resources in ways that are useful to people (as in designing and building roads, bridges, dams or machines and in creating new products)
10Antediluvian _____Ancient times; especially those before the Middle Ages. Objects or monuments and tools left by ancient people.
11Engineering _____To spread widely, to move in different directions
12Dispersion _____A type of rectangular temple tower or tiered mound erected by the Sumerians, Akkadians, and BAbylonians in Mesopotamia (present day Iraq and western Iran)
13Ziggurat _____Uncovering by digging away covering earth. The act or process of excavating.
14Excavation _____To talk foolishly or too much. To make speech sounds that do not make sense to the hearer.
15Tower of Babel _____The science that deals with past human life as shown by fossil relics and the monuments and tools left by ancient peoples
16Clay tablet _____The art or science of designing and building structures, especially ones that can be lived in. A method or style of building.
17Cuneiform _____Of or relating to the period before the Flood described in the Bible
18Nation _____Dating back as far as 3,500 B.C., these were used to record the earliest writings of mankind. These served as the notepads of their day.
