VETERANS DAY NOVEMBER 11THVeterans Day was originally called Armistice Day. The holiday was first celebrated when President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11, 1919 as Armistice Day, in honor of the signing of the Treaty of Versailles a year earlier. With the signing of the treaty on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918, World War I officially ended and peace began. The nation was celebrating victory in "the war to end all wars". However, peace was short-lived. Soon after, millions of soldiers were fighting in World War II and the Korean War. In 1954 Congress voted to change the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day as a tribute to the countless individuals who risked and laid down their lives so that Americans might live in freedom.
Some of the puzzles that people list for the public get indexed by the search engines (like Google). Some people find those puzzles and cannot figure out how to make a puzzle of their own. So this page now has the navigation sidebar. There are now buttons on the puzzle so that you can get a clean page, in either HTML or PDF, that you can use your browser's print button to print. The PDF format allows the web site to know how large a printer page is, and the fonts are scaled to fill the page. The PDF takes awhile to generate. Don't panic! |
