The chief priests and elders that made up the Jewish counsel condemned Jesus to death although He had done nothing wrong.  He was taken to the Roman governor, Pilate, because they could not carry out the sentence.  Pilate did not want anything to do with having Jesus crucified, but gave into the angry Jewish mob.  Jesus was crucified at golgotha on a cross for our sins.  They took His garments and divided them between each soldier, and cast lots for the tunic.  After He died He was placed in a tomb.  Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead.  He overcame death when He rose from the tomb.  We are redeemed by His blood when we obey the gospel.  Read the whole story in John 18-20.
