God told Abram (Abraham) to leave his home in Haran. He obeyed God. He took his wife Sarai (Sarah) and his nephew Lot. God led them to Canaan. He built an altar there. God promised to bless Abraham and make his name great and make him a great nation. Story found in Genesis 12.
